Whitby real estate with Laura McBride
Laura’s brokerage office is in Downtown Whitby, at 1032 Brock Street S. Whitby is part of her regular service area alongside Ajax and Pickering. This is a plain guide to how the Whitby market works, neighbourhood by neighbourhood.
The Whitby market at a glance
Whitby is a town of roughly 140,000 people on Lake Ontario, between Ajax and Oshawa. It has two GO Transit stations, direct access to Highways 401, 407 and 412, a marina and waterfront at Port Whitby, and a walkable historic downtown along Brock Street. The village of Brooklin, to the north, has grown quickly while keeping a small-town feel.
Whitby detached prices sit roughly in line with Ajax, in the middle of the Durham Region range. The central neighbourhoods offer a full range of townhomes, semis and detached homes, while Brooklin and Taunton North are where the newer, larger detached stock is concentrated and prices run higher.
Whitby neighbourhoods
Whitby Shores and Port Whitby. On the lake by the marina and Whitby GO. Newer homes and townhomes with waterfront and trail access, popular with commuters.
Downtown Whitby. The historic core along Brock Street, with century homes, infill and walkable shops and restaurants.
Williamsburg and Pringle Creek. Established central family neighbourhoods, mostly detached, close to schools and parks.
Blue Grass Meadows and Rolling Acres. Central and north-central areas with a mix of detached homes from the 1980s and 1990s.
Taunton North. The newer growth area near the 407, with recent detached and townhome subdivisions.
Brooklin. The village to the north, semi-rural in feel, with larger newer homes and a historic main street. One of the fastest-growing parts of Durham Region.
Buying and selling in Whitby
Buying. Whitby buyers weigh downtown character against newer space in Brooklin, and GO access against a quieter street. Laura helps you compare pockets and read value against recent sales.
Selling. A downtown century home, a Williamsburg family home and a Brooklin new-build each need a different plan. Laura handles preparation guidance, pricing and marketing aimed at the right buyer, with staging built into every listing package.
